Narrative of the Young Shepherd

In the heart of the mesmerizing rolling hills, lived a young shepherd. His existence was mostly pure, simple yet virtuous. His primary duty was essentially to look after his herd of ewes.
Their soft bleating and the whispering of the breezes among the single tree on the peak were his main companions. Day upon day, guarding his responsibilities instilled in him a notion of quiet fulfillment.
However, there were occasional moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would long for companionship. In one such instance because of sheer boredom, the shepherd boy orchestrated a troublesome plan.
Narratives of wolves prowling on sheep had long been circulating in the hamlet. So, the boy decided to exploit this fear and played a trick on the villagers.
One day he dashed into the village yelling “Wolf! A wolf is attacking my sheep!” The scared villagers sprinted up the hills to offer assistance but found nothing threatening.
The boy giggled at the puzzle on their faces. This prank continued for a few more days. Yet, one noon, a real wolf did attack the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy raced for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.
Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but managed to protect only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he returned to the town only to receive a reprimand on honesty and the repercussions of crying wolf.
His tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the value of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the risks of false alarms. Moreover, it stresses how trust once lost, is tough to reclaim. It's a story as appropriate today as website it was in the past.
